What to do?

This was to be a red, white, and blue theme with bears. The room is our home office, guest room, baby room for the grandchildren, and music room. A multifunction room of the first order! I can't decide what I need to do next. The bookshelves need to have more color and be beefed up some. The blank space behind the bed needs something, but what? Plates? Pictures? The bed skirt is little short. Do I get another one? Add another layer underneath? This is what you seen when you enter the room. It seems cluttered to me. Any ideas? Budget? $50? That isn't much to work with.

I have lots of bears! This is just a sprinkling of them.

Maybe it's the combination of the quilt and the ornate day bed? Maybe I need a new direction altogether.

What to do? Hmmmn........(See, I'm still stuck!)

This post edited to add that I thank you all for your comments and ideas! I will be working on this room soon (I hope). I have been busy watching my grandson and daughter, she hasn't been well (expecting in June) and he has been ill also. Thanks!

I think you have a great start. Have you thought about painting the back of the bookcases a contrasting color?

Hi Sondra!

My suggestion:

Choose an accent color for the wall behind the bed--
just that one wall only--maybe the RED. It will make a stronger, simpler focal point for you and tie the smaller objects together. Go with some white ironstone like plates--or other white thrifty plate finds-- to arch over the bed in a line following the bed's shape. They will look great on the red wall.

Paint 20.00 5 plates at 6.00/each = 30.00

Thanks for stopping over!

Hi!
I was going to say the same as the previous comment - paint the wall behind the bed red. The shelves will pop then. The wall color now looks a little pink or peachy. Too bland for your theme. The things on the bed are nice, but the things above it are too small for a focal point. More drama! :-)

What a "Happy Room" with all the colors and cute bears. What's not to love?! I think a good coat of white paint with either a deep red or Navy Blue focal wall will make it all come together. Keep all your bears and your red/white/blue theme. It's what you love and you live with what your LOVE around you, IMO.

Thanks for stopping by my Blog.
I've signed on to follow you, so I'll be back.

Well....I like the room. It's happy! The only thing I could think of was something with the book shelves. And maybe put them together on a different wall making 1 large bookcase. I just don't know. It doesn't look like the bedskirt is to short. I purchased one for me bed that is to short, AUGH! Cost to much to take it back. I'm just livin with it for awhile.
Have a great day.

Arkie,

That's a very cute room! I like it alot! Love the Americana and bears!

Since it's multifunctional and I heard the word "grandkids", here's what I see.....maybe paint the shelves the red color. Put a long shelf above the daybed and a barn star above it. On the shelf put some blocks with the grandkids names on them and maybe some pictures of them as well, and mix in a teddy bear or two. Just an idea...

Hello Arkie!

Thanks for stopping by! I love your room! I also LOVE bears and have started a collection of my own!

I love your colors! Have you thought about painting the wall that your bed is on a dark patriotic blue or red, your bed would really pop. Perhaps putting your two bookcases together on another wall will show off your collection better.
Something larger scaled behind your bed would be great. Maybe A long horizontal shelf which you could place a grapevine wreath on a stand with hook or patriotic stars, or hang your beautiful quilt. What about vinyl lettering that reads...HOME OF THE FREE AND THE BEARS. Your bears are adorable!

It's a pleasure to meet you! Come by and visit anytime! It's great to make new friends! Your blog is wonderful! I can't wait to see your finished room!

Best of luck to you!
Have a great weekend! Come by and visit anytime!
Love,
Brenda
